Lahore

Last Friday, I went for a movie (nothing path breaking, I know). The best part was that I normally avoid watching unconventional movies at cineplex, as there is so much of risk in loosing 200 bucks, just to watch some one’s cinematic liberty. Never mind this time I took the risk and booked the tickets for a low-budget LAHORE. Normally I would love to watch these kind of movies on laptop, but some how the very fact that the movie is based on kick-boxing dragged me to movie hall (no, no I am not a kick boxer ;) ). It was a late night show, with usual crowd of 30-40 odd people.

Movie starts of with a scene where one of the actor is preparing for an upcoming tournament (which initially looks confusing). Coming straight to the point. There is one guy who is a professional kick boxer (a nice role portrayed by Sushant Singh), who defeats one of the national champion in the tournament. In the match itself the coach gets a glimpse of his emerging champion and is quick to identify the skills of the winner.
Meanwhile a parallel track runs as well. Younger brother of the kickboxer is a top-level cricketer (who is always in best of the forms ;) ). Things take an ugly turn when the Asian championship takes place and the Indian kick boxer gets killed by his Pakistani counterpart (yes that’s one of the shock of the movie :P ) and rest is history. Younger brother of the dead guy leaves cricket, becomes a kick boxer and blah blah. Now again the tournament happens but this time in Pakistan. So the younger bhai goes all the way to Paki to have a match with his rival. Now you must be expecting that he will kill the Paki, or India will defeat Paki team and stuff  like that, but hold your judgements, none of these happens.
it’s a 5 match series in which the last match is the decider and when the time comes to win the chota bhai of dead kick boxer leaves the killer kick boxer of his bada bhai and gives concedes defeat to Paki team. It was actually a bit unusual for me but some how I liked it.

Now the million dollar question, that why the hell I am writing about this movie. Actually I just wanted to tell that, this movie is one of the finest sports movies ever churned out by apna bollywood. The action sequences during the match are top-notch (so much so that entire crowd broke to clapping on so many occasions). The fight sequence some how makes sure that you are sitting on the edge. Star cast is bland, no latkas and jhatkas nothing. Few sequences between the movie do tend to create a bit of boredom, but then it’s acceptable.

If you are looking for something fresh, and different then go for this movie. Or your kid is a boxer ;) then do take him for this movie. Over all a nice movie. Finally Indian film makers are coming off the age and churning out something worth watching. Kudos!

Best of 2009

Posted by Rahul Singh on Thursday,December 31, 2009

No prizes for guessing what this post will be saying about..yes..just trying to run through the flashback of this tough year. Coming straight to the point. I have always been a big fan of these top 5, top 10 kind of countdowns..thus I felt of doing the same for my sleepy blog as well.Ummm..let me check..to begin with

Top Bollywood movies of the year

Any normal Indian will surely get excited by even small mention of Bollywood, Was just pondering that what all can be my best movies of the year..

Here it goes..

3 Idiots :- Any one who must have seen this movie by now will support my selection, every time I watch an Aamir movie  I am left clueless that how this guy compromises so much with his character. Amazing movie. Superb story and what else can you demand to end your year on a happy note.

Rocket Singh: Sometimes simple stories can go straight through your heart. This movie is just like that. Every thing is so predictable about this movie, still you will love it.

Wanted : I know I know, this is something anti-best kind of entry, but then somehow I enjoyed this movie. Not a dull moment full on masala movie, I know that we tend to loathe such kind of cinema these days, but then after so much of complexities..it actually makes sense to watch such brainless stuff. Salman rocks.

Paa : hmm…this movie is all about Mr. Bachhan. I am simply amazed by his stamina and zeal to experiment. Although not a great story line but somehow top-notch performances by the actors in this movies makes it one of the must watch of 2009.

Dev D : Now this is what I can term as coming of ages. A small budget movie, with completely new take on all time classic Devdas, you can only feel that how the hell someone can think of making such different movies. Emotional atayachar has some how became one of them most popular word of 2009. Top notch.

Apart from these I have so many movies for 2009, but somehow I feel that these are the only ones which I would love to watch again movies like Kurban, Kaminey, New york, wake up sid are definitely nice ones but still my best ones are already decided.

Top moments of 2009

Now this is something personal.. I was just wondering if I can also pen down my best moments of the year. So read it at your own discretion ;) .

First Job : Yes this was one of the high of 2009. This is the year when I started of with my first brush with corporate world. Things have moved on since, but still this moment will always be very special to me.

Yamaha Fazer: from second-hand bike to the ubiquitous Pulsar, I landed up with out of budget bike Fazer. I never thought of getting such an expensive bike for myself (yeah expensive at least to my standards) but then I would love to remember this year for Fazer, as it gave me confidence to pursue my dream, to go for what you like and to achieve what you feel is bit difficult.

MBA : This is one such achievement, which really makes me feel that Yes! I have done something significant in my life. The best part is that now I am relieved that there is no more formal education left for me (plz PhD is not my cup of tea). So no more tests, no more classes no more tension of getting flunked in exams…2009 marked an end to my student life..

Recession : Hmmm..what more to say..this is of course not the best thing to happen, but somehow I feel that this rough time has only made me stronger. It has inculcated me with a feeling that what worse can happen now, when so much of  mess has already happened. This phenomenon has only made me a tough person.

pheww..I believe these are the few best moments I tried to capture. But I am amazed by this feeling that how fast this year passed. 2009 will always be remembered for its tough situation. The kind of struggle it offered. Never mind, I have great hopes from 2010 which again will be a crucial year for me. Lets see what happens next…Wishing you all a great new year in offering…enjoy and may god bless us all with all the joy and happiness for coming year……HAPPY 2010

Bachna Ae Haseeno

Posted by Rahul Singh on Tuesday,July 8, 2008

This monday I checked out the much awaited music from Yashraj camp movie Bachna Ae Haseeno. It seems like that YRF has lost its midas touch in the music department, someway or the other they are not able to churn out  movies which are neither box office success nor having any catchy music unlike their other movies like veer zaara.

This movie will surely set the box office on fire for initial days becuause of its star value. With stars like Katrina, Bipasha, Ranbir, Deepika and Minisha any college goer will surely love to drop in for this flick.

Now the music…in one word I would rate it disappointing…The album opens up with Khuda Jane with singers like KK and Shilpa Rao I immediately developed big expectations. Once you listen this number and you somewhere get a feel as if you are listening song from some Bhatt camp movie with Imran hashmi in lead. May be these days we are so much into Pritam’s music that every other number seems to be composed by him only . But Khuda Jane a slow paced number is surely a treat for lovers check it out.
Lucky Boy is a big dampener neither its a dance number nor it falls in slow genre may be it will look more interesting on screen but nothing special in this number. Talent of singers like Sunidhi and Hard Kaur (Move your body fame from Johnny Gaddar) are completely wasted.

Aahista aahista is surely a winner track among all the other numbers of this title. A fast paced track which you would love to listen on a long drive is a number to watch for. Track opens up with melodious voice of Shreya and the whole pitch and feel changes as Lucky Ali takes charge of the proceeding. Lucky is almost on high pitch almost throughout the number, in coming days this one should surely be used for promotion

Jogi Mahi is nothing special to go for its just like any other punjabi number and is on some serious note, with singer like Sukhvinder Singh coming in you surely expect a cracker, but again its a let down. Other singer include Himani Kapoor( never heard of her) and Shekhar from the music duo Vishal Shekhar itself.

Small town girl is one of the funky number, with vocals from Shankar Mahadevan its surely takes some time to catch up but once you get through you somewhere get a feel of listening the song again. This is a full masti number. While listening this  I got a feel as if I am listening the track Ticket to Hollywood from Jhoom barabar jhoom, but still many of you would love the track because of its masti quotient.

Khuda Jane (revisted) is a remix version of the same number which opened the title, its a racy number with high tempo and good beats and will surely rock the floor for coming days.
and finally the surprise element- the title track Bachna ae haseeno. I got surprised to see Kishor kumar in credit of the song, but then its more of remastered version of the old song with same name, sung originally by Kishor Kumar. The only difference this time is change in the music (loads of beats added ) with Vishal and Sumit kumar adding in their vocals as well. Overall an decent number to tap your foot on.

In nutshell there is nothing special in this album expect Khuda Jane and Ahista Ahista , there is hardly any song which will set your imaginatoin wild. Even the Revisted version of Khuda Jane is one rrack to look for. It seem that duo composer Visal-Shekar are running out of gas after their phenomenoal success in Om Shanti Om. This reflects in this album as well with nothing much innovative I really wish that they churn out something really catchy in future. Overall a Okkkkish album. will give 5.5/10.
keep rocking..:)
